Step 1: Jesus
Entering into a relationship with Jesus is the first and most important step on your faith journey. It all begins and ends with Jesus. The Bible says that He (Christ) is the image of the invisible God, the first born over all creation and that all things were created by Him and for Him. He came to earth to restore man’s relationship with God by making peace through His blood shed on the cross. (Colossians 1).
Apart from Jesus we are lost, unforgiven and disconnected from our Creator God. 2000 years ago through His life, death and resurrection Jesus made a way for man to enter into a right standing relationship with God. Many people know religion and know of God but they don’t have a personal relationship with God. Jesus words to the first disciples were “come follow me”. He echoes those same words to you here in the 21st century, “come follow me”.
Jesus invites you to follow him. He wants to teach you and He desires to speak vision and direction into your life. Through a growing relationship with God you will discover your purpose and destiny in life.
Again this is only a first step; make a commitment to be at church every week. A healthy connection to a church family is essential to your spiritual growth. In Matthew 4 Jesus said, “Man does not live on bread alone but on every Word that comes from the mouth of God.”
Step 2: Discover FBCFO
Discover FBCFO is a great way to learn more about who we are, what we believe, and how you can get involved. This is the perfect opportunity for people interested in membership, new members or frequent visitors to know to know FBCFO on a deeper level. It is 4 sessions and led by Pastor Jason offered every 4 months. Email Pastor Jason and ask him when the next Starting Point will be offered!
Help us get to know you! Provide a little bit of information at the guest connection, so we can help you on your journey!
Step 3: Baptism
The Bible simply teaches that baptism is the first step to living your life with Jesus. Baptism is your chance to stand up and tell the world about your personal commitment to follow Christ. Choosing to be baptized is the first step of obedience Jesus asks us to make as we start living our lives with him. We would love to help you take this step in your faith journey! We offer baptism services throughout the year.
First Baptist Church practices believer's baptism. Believing adults and children who understand the meaning of baptism are encouraged to take this step in obedience to Christ. While water baptism does not save you, it provides an opportunity to publicly identify with Jesus. Baptism is an outward symbol of an inward reality and is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We believe that the biblical pattern reminds us that baptism follows belief in Christ for salvation. Therefore, we do not baptize infants but provide regular opportunities for parents to dedicate to the Lord their children.
Step 4: Close Community
Jesus Christ called His disciples to develop a new community of believers and they learned from the Master Teacher the meaning of true discipleship. They learned how important it is to pray and take real-life examples from the Bible and apply them to everyday life.
Groups are a very important part of our process here at First Baptist Church as we attempt to impact our community for eternity. Our desire is to equip you to be the person of impact we believe God has made you to be.
We have two major expressions of community at FBCFO:
1. Sunday Bible Study
We believe change happens best in community with others. Sunday Bible Study & LifeGROUPS are the optimal opportunities to establish relationships with other members of our church family and share life with them. You will be encouraged to grow in deeper relationship with God, others, and join together with the members of your group to serve others in and around our community.

Step 5: Become a member
If you are interested in becoming a member of FBCFO, we would love to have you join us. It is our desire that our visitors receive all the information necessary in order to make a prayerful decision about church membership. We also desire to assist new members in connecting to your new church family, to encourage spiritual growth, and to prepare them for ministry membership.
ANY PERSON MAY JOIN FBCFO IF THEY HAVE:
- Made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord of their lives
- Been baptized by immersion after accepting Christ
At the end of each worship service is an invitation where prospective members can come forward. After the invitation, prospective members will be introduced and then welcomed by the church family. Our pastors will arrange a meeting and counsel them regarding their salvation experience and assurance thereof. Also, they will fill out a short information card to be added to our church database.
You can get a jump on providing your information by registering in our online church directory.
Step 6: Serve
Where do I start? Begin by asking yourself, "What am I passionate about?" What issue or people group really catches your interest? What problem or issue would you like to solve?
Next, consider how God has uniquely wired you. Consider your personality, skills, abilities, and life experiences. How could these help you make a meaningful contribution in the lives of others?
