There is great value in shared values! When Paul wrote to the believers who were living in Rome, he knew the importance of having common values. Though he had never previously been to Rome or met these people in person, he wanted to make sure that they shared the same value concerning the good news about Jesus. He expressed it this way, “That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome. I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile” (Rom. 1:15-16).
We can expect amazing things to happen when we share the same values. Having shared values is the glue that holds us together. It is the compass that guides our direction. It is the standard by which we function. It is the distinction that gives us our identity. And as we continue our newsletter series on common values, let’s begin to more clearly identify the values that we hold dear.
I began this conversation with our staff ministry team a few months ago, and using the word “GOSPEL,” we articulated our values as follows: Growing in our walk with Jesus, having an Outward focus, being Spirit empowered, putting People over programs, pursuing Excellence in all that we do, while always Leading courageously. These are values that we cherish and believe will help us champion our church mission of leading people into a life-changing relationship with Jesus. I’ll discuss more next week! -Jason
